Dance Vortex XIII
| Adapt, Migrate or Die
is the Universal Law of living things. And Vortex has taken on a life of
it's own. This year's incarnation will explore the "Adaptation
(evolution) of Dance" and try to answer the age old question of
where we came from - primordial sea of music and rhythms and undulating primeval
forms of proto-life and survival of the fittest according to Darwinian

Oct 3 - 5, 2008
Mark your calendars now.

Dance Vortex is adapting (I've migrated and hopefully neither will die anytime soon!) - we're expanding our dance options! Last year's impromptu contra dance inspired many dancers and it will be a grand evolutionary direction to explore. I've lined up the phenomenal band, Notorious, with Larry Unger and Eden MacAdam-Somer and the fabulous caller, Cis Hinkle, to keep you going up and down the evolutionary chain. Larry & Eden also play great swing & blues (Sat night) and Larry has been called the "American Strauss" because of his waltz composing (Sunday Waltz Finale). The Lafayette Rhythm Devils is the Cajun band ("I even bought a Rhythm Devils CD to check them out, without even hearing them - if they're good enough for Vortex, that's good enough for me." (Chris C, Chattanooga, TN)) . Leon Chavis and the Zydeco Flames will burn it up and down. Be sure to catch Leon in Daphne (http://www.gulfcoastzydecomusicfestival.com/) May 16 - 18th and he frequently plays at Cafe des Amis in Breaux Bridge for the zydeco breakfast on Saturdays. Atlanta Swamp Opera will provide their usual fun filled antics and music for Jammy Jam. And there's always MORE! |
